Brake pads and drum brakes wear down with use. They are designed this way to facilitate a vehicle being able to come to a full and complete stop.

Rotors are the metal plate that brake pads and discs press against in order to create the friction needed to stop a vehicle. These can become damaged or warped with use and heat.
